Conmovedora obra alegórica, rica en texturas y veladuras , que contrapone la divinidad con el sufrimiento terrenal, mostrando una figura celestial en penumbras vigilando desde las alturas a una multitud humana , soldados y refugiados, que avanza en las sombras. Entre el contraste térmico de tonos cálidos , dorados y azules reflejando lo divino en la parte superior, mientras los tonos grises y terrosos de la base enfatizan la condición humana y la penumbra.
